Frequently Asked Questions

Can I return to the site and see my results?

Absolutely. If you are a member, you will be able to log in and view all of your reports for up to 90 days. We know how important this information is, that's why we provide you with unlimited access for a much longer time than any of our competitors.

If there is an error in my criminal record can FreeBackgroundSearch.com correct it?

Unfortunately, No. FreeBackgroundSearch.com receives records from various reporting agencies, both public and private. The only way to correct an error is to contact the originating agency. We recommend contacting the court in which the record was originally filed.

What states can I search?

You can search every state for criminal records, however, not every state reports criminal records in the same way and some records do not go as far back as others. Please see our Coverage Area page for all of the stipulations with each state's reporting practices.

What types of criminal records are displayed?

The types of records that are shown vary from state to state depending on the recording agency. Our database returns traffic citations, infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies. Please see our Coverage Area page for the reporting protocol of your requested state.

How far back can I search someone's criminal record?

Every state differs in the length of time records are stored and accessed. Most of our database contains records that go back over 20 years. Please see the Coverage Area page to see how far back your state's records go and how often they are updated.

Can someone tell if I have performed a background search on them using FreeBackgroundSearch.com?

Absolutely not. When you use FreeBackgroundSearch.com you can rest assured that you will remain completely anonymous to everybody but us. We will not share your personal information with anyone. We only request this information for biling purposes. The person being searched will not be notified nor can they ever tell a search was done.

Does someone need to be convicted of a crime for it to appear on their record?

No. In some states you can see charges regardless of a resulting conviction. You may also see information such as whether or not the individual was put on parole and/or probation.

If a person has a federal record, will it show up in my search?

Federal records are not included in this search.
